Reed Warbler

Launched on a commercial I470 motor, the design of the recovery system was validated, recovering the rocket intact on its first launch to 421 m. Furthermore, the electronics bay included the Trident board, capturing footage from 3 separate global shutter cameras for diagnostics of the flight and recovery system. Mirrors were used to reduce the external footprint of cameras whilst allowing them to look down.

On its second flight, on a commercial I540 motor, a motor CATO, believed to be a failure of the nozzle, resulted in a failed recovery.

On its third flight, it flew with the ~50mm J-class Kingfisher motor; to the best of our knowledge, the first launch on a student designed and manufactured solid rocket motor in the UK.

Subsequently, 4 launches on the Ardnamurchan peninsula with Reed Warbler motors in both the BATES and moonburner configurations occurred. This led to a maximum altitude of 5511 m on the moonburner and a maximum velocity of Mach 1.51 on a BATES motor.
